Medical Genetics
The Evex Department of Medical Genetics provides the following services:
- Diagnosis and treatment of chromosome pathologies.
- Diagnosis and treatment of monogenic pathologies.
- Diagnosis and treatment of multifactorial pathologies.
- Consultation for pregnant women with regard to prenatal diagnostics issues.
- Diagnosis and treatment of inherited metabolic diseases.
- Examination and consultation required for family planning.
Three state programs are implemented in the Department of Medical Genetics, which cover patients across Georgia:
- Diagnosis and treatment of phenylketonuria in patients under 18 years of age.
- Diagnosis and treatment of phenylketonuria in patients over age of 18 years.
- Diagnostic program of cystic fibrosis in infants, which covers the Tbilisi and Adjara regions.
- The department includes a medical genetics laboratory, 2 clinical geneticists, 1.5 laboratory physicians, and one pediatric endocrinology and metabolism specialist.
