Nuclear medicine

PET/CT, or positron-emission computer tomography, is carried out by qualified personnel at the high-tech medical center of the University Clinic in Tbilisi. The clinic is equipped with up-to-date diagnostic, intervention and surgical apparatus.   

PET/CT is related to the sphere of nuclear medicine. It is 3D non-invasive diagnostic examination that combines two scanners and allows for simultaneously receiving information on anatomical and morphological tumor changes. The radiological-pharmacological agent 18F-FDG is used during the examination. It accumulates heavily in tumor cells and allows for the revealing of the tumor process and its spread.     

Advantages of PET/CT scan:

  • diagnosis and detection of tumor in the early stage of disease, even when there is no clinical onset
  • accurate differentiation of non-malignant and malignant tumors, diagnosis and proper treatment of various diseases in their early stage
  • detailed assessment of further results of chemo- and radio-therapy
  • accurate diagnosis of tumors of any size, including less than 1cm

This examination is used for the diagnosis of tumors in various ailments, including:

  • lung cancer
  • head and neck cancer
  • lymphoma
  • breast cancer
  • cancer of esophagus and stomach
  • colorectal cancer
  • malignant skin cancer (malignant melanoma)
  • endometrial and cervical cancer
  • various gynecological tumorous diseases
  • unknown primary tumors
  • bone cancer
  • melanoma
